Handheld vacuum cleaners make great alternatives to the old dustpan and brush and can be used instead of a conventional vacuum in smaller homes and flats, caravans, campers and boats. They are ideal for student accommodation. Great if you have messy kids around. Also they are perfect for the garage, garden shed or workshop, where cleaning up after diy jobs becomes a breeze.

If you just intend to use it for quick occasional jobs, then a cordless model is just the job. After a single charge, they will run for up to 20 minutes, depending on the power of the chosen model. Obviously, a higher powered model will clean better but run out of power sooner. The real advantages though are that you can reach all sorts of hard to access areas and they take up very little storage space.

A corded handheld vacuum model can be as good as a conventional cleaner. They are not limited by battery life and have powerful cleaning features. On the downside, you still have a mains cord, they tend to be a bit on the noisy side and have smaller dirt collection receptacles and filters than a normal cleaner.
